Commercial plumbing planning

A business plumbing project needs operational planning as well as a repair scope. The property owner, tenant, manager and service provider may have different approval responsibilities.

What to document before the visit

• Identify the authorized decision-maker and building contact.
• Describe access hours and activities that cannot be interrupted.
• List the affected fixtures and known prior work.

Understand the proposed scope

Ask how shutdowns, access, tenant communication and return to use will be coordinated. Document which party obtains approvals and whether the quote covers investigation, phased work and cleanup. Do not assume a residential referral program accepts commercial requests.

Questions worth asking

• Who must authorize the work?
• What downtime should we plan for?
• Are after-hours access, permits and restoration included?
