A useful plumbing request describes the fixture, the symptom and the pattern. A broad request for a repair becomes easier to assess when the plumber knows whether the issue concerns supply, drainage or a particular appliance.

What to document before the visit

• Name the affected fixtures and whether other fixtures behave normally.
• Record when the problem began and whether it happens continuously or only during use.
• Keep earlier repair invoices available so the next inspection does not start from zero.

Understand the proposed scope

Ask the estimate to distinguish investigation from the repair itself. Clarify whether opening a wall, replacing damaged finishes, removing old parts and checking the completed work are included. A diagnosis may be needed before the contractor can price a final repair.

Questions worth asking

• What is the diagnostic charge, and is it credited toward work?
• What would require a revised estimate?
• Who handles any permit, inspection and finish repairs?
