Electrical panel upgrade
A panel proposal should start with the reason for the change. Additional equipment, an observed fault and a broader service upgrade are different project drivers.
What to document before the visit
- List planned new electrical equipment.
- Gather earlier electrical work records.
- Describe the panel location without opening it.
Understand the proposed scope
Ask the electrician to explain the assessment and whether the project includes only the panel or other service equipment. Clarify utility coordination, shutdown planning, labeling, permits and inspection. A larger panel label by itself does not establish available service capacity.
Questions worth asking
- What assessment supports this upgrade?
- Is utility or service-entrance work included?
- How long will the planned interruption last?
