What to document before the visit
- List what needs to change and what should stay.
- Separate essential work from optional upgrades.
- Record access constraints and whether the home will remain occupied.
Understand the proposed scope
Ask each contractor to price the same written scope, with materials, allowances and exclusions visible. Separate design work from construction and identify who coordinates specialist trades.
