HEATING & COOLING / A SERVICE-PLANNING GUIDE
Smart thermostat installation
Choose a thermostat after confirming compatibility with the actual system. Desired app features are only one part of the installation decision.
What to document before the visit
- Record the current thermostat and HVAC models.
- List the controls and scheduling features you need.
- Describe shared access or account ownership preferences.
Understand the proposed scope
Ask who verifies wiring, equipment compatibility and control requirements before purchase. Include installation, setup and an explanation of normal operation. Clarify any additional wiring charge and who retains account access. Ask how basic temperature control works if internet service is unavailable. Do not alter wiring to test a suspected compatibility issue.
Questions worth asking
- Is this model compatible with all connected equipment?
- Does the quote include any required wiring changes?
- Who owns the account and receives setup instructions?
